Tomorrow night at our “Sacred Sounds” lenten series, Mark is roping in Rev Ben
- a musician and priest who joined our staff team last year, and Simon Tipping who is a musician and church leader from Christchurch. These two are going to talk about worshipping God through music - both as a way of experiencing the presence of God with us and as a deep reponse from our hearts to that experience. Moving On
Vicar Mark, Katy, and whānau are preparing for a big transition as they move to the UK, where Mark has been appointed as Vicar of the Parish of Mill End and Heronsgate with West Hyde. His finishing date here is still to be confirmed.
This marks the end of a deeply meaningful five years at the Parish of Waikanae, a time filled with both challenge and blessing. Arriving just as Covid hit New Zealand, Mark quickly became a steady, compassionate presence during uncertain times. His warmth, deep theological insight, and gift for teaching have left a lasting impact, while his passion for the arts and commitment to building stronger relationships with local iwi have enriched the life of the parish.
In announcing the move, Mark shared that the decision was shaped by a growing sense of the need to be there for their parents at this stage in their lives. While they had anticipated a move in the future, an unexpected opportunity arose when Mark’s mother’s parish in the UK advertised for a vicar. After much prayer and discernment, Mark applied and was offered the role.
Reflecting on his time in Waikanae, Mark expressed his deep gratitude:
"It has been an amazing five years here, and God has truly blessed us through the people of this parish in so many ways. I very much love you all and pray God’s hugest blessings on you. I know He loves you and will look after you always."
The whole family will be greatly missed, but they go with the prayers and love of the parish as they embark on this new season of ministry.
